GRAMMAR

There are numerous really cool grammar websites and places online where you can review grammar and practice exercises. Here are a few:

Automatic online sentence diagrammer — type in a sentence and it’ll diagram it for you. This way you can see the heirarchy in a sentence, what is the subject, verb, direct object, descriptors, etc.: http://1aiway.com/nlp4net/services/enparser/

Here’s an interactive tutorial on diagramming sentences: http://www.wisc-online.com/Objects/ViewObject.aspx?ID=WCN8207

Or just go to Google and search for sentence diagrammer, parts of a sentence, or whatever we are studying and you will innevitably find lots of exercises, tutorials, etc. There are online exercises that will even tell you why you got something wrong. Here are a few examples:

MLA FORMAT and CITING
We will be using MLA format for essay writing and citations this year, which is usually the standard in the field of English. For those of you unfamiliar with MLA format or needing a refresher, here are some reference websites you can use:

http://writing.wisc.edu/Handbook/DocMLA.html

And of course there are lots of works cited generators out there. Just make sure you check over what the generator spit out and if it pasted into your document correctly before you turn it in, i.e. PROOFREAD. Here’s one example site:
